The Amethyst Deceiver
For a change the spaniel and I went to Godley's Green this morning. Its a small woodland area separated from the rest of the reserve by roads which make it almost inaccessible and very seldom visited. Found some nice fungi including one of my favourites Laccaria amethystina - the Amethyst Deceiver . Its a wonderful violet coloured fungi that grows among dark damp leaf litter especially under beech. Quite hard to spot, they often go unnoticed until the caps begin to turn white. When mature and dry they are easily mistaken for Laccaria laccata - the Deceiver.
