Autumn Comes to Gremlin's Meadow
Sometimes you travel the world looking for something, only to find it in your own backyard! After a week of serious foliage chasing and leaf peeping, I spent one day entirely at home (so I was actually working at home, but hey, it counts anyway).
It has started to get chillier lately and there are whispers of snow showers in the weekend forecast. So home seemed like a good place to be. The air conditioners are out now, the flannel sheets are on the bed, and the heater vents are vacuumed so we can start turning on some heat.
We had sun that came and went in the afternoon on this day, followed by showers. During the sunny part of the afternoon, I walked through the yard and snapped a few photos, all the time thinking, Why would I want to be anywhere else?!? The deer have made their beds in the meadow; I think they know they can be safe here. That is how we intended it should be: peace to all who enter here.
Just for contrast, here are a few pictures of Gremlin's meadow in winter time (one, two, and three). And here it is in the full green of summer, with the original story of how it came to be called Gremlin's Meadow.
There are many things that people mean when they say the word home. Some people are talking about a place. Other people are talking about people (usually family, but it doesn't have to be) and/or pets they love. For some, home is only a nearly forgotten memory or a wish for a place they've never been. I am a lucky, lucky girl; this is home to me.
The song to accompany this image is REO Speedwagon's Find Your Own Way Home. This posting is accompanied by the sincerest wish that you may find your own way home, whatever you mean by that, and wherever it may be. . . .
