Inkcap

Catching up and filling the gaps (well some of them)

The majority of the fungi spotted on my walk today were old and much the worse for wear but this one was new and even so it had already had a hole chewed through its side.  My guide book says `Dung-inhabiting pure-white inca whose cap and stipe are completely covered in fleecy cotton fibrils.  Cap to 4cm across; elongated egg-shaped or conical, then flatfish bell-shaped with the margin uplifted and split with age.'

I've seen another one of these today and I'm now beginning to wonder if they are shaggy ink caps.  I probably need to pick one to look at the stem but I'm reluctant because they are appearing in ones.
