Duck Tai Chi. Leitz Telyt-V 280mm
My Editor is telling me that my Blips taken down at the weir are becoming ho-hum, since the characters never seem to change. It's true: all the usual suspects were there including (probably) the same Great Blue Heron from last week at his favorite fishing spot. But at this time of the year Boston is blessed with very special light. It happens when the wind from Canada, carrying on it the first harbinger of winter, pushes great, white fluffy clouds across the sky. The light changes very rapidly from deep overcast to full sunlight and searchlight beams in between. Today had such light conditions. I noticed this solitary mallard roosting on a willow doing his tai chi ritual, getting ready to call it a day. It was just a matter of waiting for a pencil beam of light to illuminate his iridescence, bill and feet, and here he is.
