All in the mind?

Our local osteopath and chiropractor always has a life-affirming quote in the corner of one of his windows, like this one.
 
I mention this because of an article in today’s Observer written by science reporter, Dara Mohammadi, who went to one with his back problem.
 It’s unclear from the article whether it helped him or not but what is clear is that there is plenty of research on the positive effects of placebo treatments.
 
All I know is that friends who go to these alternative practitioners swear by them though I can't help thinking that one reason they are so enthusiastic is that the osteopaths and chiropractor adopt a holistic approach and actually  listen to them.
