GOMA

I first saw this neon art work on Gillipaw's blip last week. My first impression was of a bright and lively entrance to GOMA but today in town I looked a bit closer and was less impressed by the sentiments emblazoned on one of the major tourist attractions in the city centre. I do not love the Highland Clearances nor do I love Cullodon or even Bannockburn. They are important parts of our history which would have been very different without them.
I first took real notice of the Clearances reading 'Consider the Lilies' by Iain Crichton Smith at Colege more than 40 years ago, have visited many part of the highlands still trying to regenerate life to their communities and have just finished reading Peter May's novel 'Entry Island'. We cannot be proud or 'love' the Clearances.
I did enjoy a couple of pieces in the ground floor exhibition - if you have time go in and watch the film (Gobstopper) and I did like the extra.
