Heron in Profile
Visited Montrose Basin this afternoon. Lots of Eider Ducks and a few Herons and Rabbits were enjoying the sun. Although this Heron is a bit out of focus I like his stance and so he is my blip for the day. There were quite a lot of visitors in the Observation Room and when I asked a Ranger how they could count those thousands of Geese accurately a roar of laughter came from them - one said 'That's a question everyone asks!' The Ranger then told us how. At a specified time when the geese are in a flock a group of Rangers carry out the count together by spreading out around the Basin and having a special allotted area within which, he said, it was possible to accurately count the number of geese. Maybe 'accurately' is a relative term! Have a nice evening, Everyone:-)
