Looking at cattle

Dirk went to check out some cattle that are being sold locally - the bonus here being they can be walked to the farm rather than trucked in, which is expensive.

The cattle looked good, one is a double whammy as it's in calf, two for the price of one, as they say.

The pen is still being prepared and this was a bit of an exploratory trip, so we haven't got anything yet, but we're getting closer.

Here, a simple tape measure is being used to find the chest measurement of the animal, the reading will then give the weight of the animal, from which the price is determined - according to the grade the animal is. The grade is itself determined by the muscling and fat coverage - the bigger the better essentially.

Early start in the morning to get into town for 8 for some errands that are needed, so that's going to be a bit of a brutal morning!
