Year Three

Fun day

Hired a mini excavator today, which was fun.

We decided a few weeks ago that we could not clear a boundary line by hand, so we'd get a small excavator in. And today was d day for the boundary line.

To say this mini excavator made short work of it, is an understatement. We pulled out so many roots it was unbelievable.

This was the biggest root ball we managed remove. Took a bit to get loose, and weighs a fair bit as well. But very nice to get it out, and not have this growing back next year.

All in all, the excavator was a lot of fun. Wish we could afford one.

The only thing that could have been better was if the bucket would actually let soil come back out, so you just pulled out Roos and not roots and sand.

F250 had a proper work out for once as it was on towing duty today. The excavator was 3500lbs, the trailer was 1500-2000lbs; the turbos on the engine did good.

Whilst I was towing I wondered if I was still into cars. Then it dawned on me that I had turned the radio and ac off, had the window down and was listening to the turbos whistling away which is a great sound.

Great fun pulling away at traffic lights, sinking the throttle, watching 3k rpm dial up, and then watch the turbos spool up to 32-34psi. Not sure what my 0-60 was but it was impressive for launching 6-7 tons away at the lights. (Truck + trailer).

Didn't race every light, but despite the vehicle having a tranmission temperate gauge, it never moved!

Tow mode on the truck also makes more sense with these loads. It's a bit odd if you haven't got a significant weight in the vehicle, can't describe it, but with a proper load, it made a difference. Not to mention it made the turbos whistle and almost snort when you backed off, not entirely sure what that sound was. But it was cool.
