A springe to catch woodcocks

Any cheap springe 
will catch woodcocks, dumb birds
always looking up, expecting 
the best. Their up-looking 
makes them easy prey. Take it
from a woodcock: watch your feet.

A sunny day. Falling leaves in a thatch of spider webs glinting in the sun. Reflections on my boundless foolishness. Appreciation that I’m not yet dead: new days still come, opportunities to try again to be better. And I do.
