Quonset Hut
This is a fairly new addition to Bill's model railroad train setup. This is the scrap metal place and the new Quonset Hut. I remember seeing a lot of these in the distant parts of Oahu when I lived there in the 1960's. They probably are long gone now, replaced with towering condos. Of course, I had to do the research:
Quonset hut is a lightweight prefabricated structure of corrugated galvanized steel having a semicircular cross-section. The design was based on the Nissen hut developed by the British during World War I. Hundreds of thousands were produced during World War IIand military surplus was sold to the public. The name comes from their site of first manufacture, Quonset Point, at the Davisville Naval Construction Battalion Center in Davisville (a village located within the town of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, U.S.).
