San Augustin & Popayan

Having done a lot over the past few weeks San Augustin was always planned as a chill out place so we didn't do a whole lot in our two days there. The dorm in our hostel had extremely cosy beds which was great because the weather was pretty cold and wet there. When we did venture out we spent one day wandering the streets of the town and managed to find a bar owned by a Dutch guy where we watched Chile best Argentina to win the Copa America. We spent the other day visiting San Augustin's main attraction, 'Parque Archaelogical', Which consists of lots of stone sculptures of little alien looking fellows doing different activities. These stone sculptors hold significant importance for the locals but to the four of us they were just a bit mad looking!

From there our plan was to head south and cross the border in Ecuador but due to the FARC rebels some of the border crossing can be a bit dodge so we worked out the best way was to go to Popayan first and then get buses from there that would hopefully take us into Ecuador.

We haven't seen a whole lot of Popayan during our day and a half here but the old town where we've stayed has lovely colonial style buildings. We had a nice lunch yesterday in a surreal atmosphere as everyone in the restaurant was staring at a big screen showing the Pope's arrival in Ecuador! We've also had definitely our worst dining experience of the trip here, with all of us not feeling the best today after dinner last night but we have managed to spend the day wandering through the town admiring the historic buildings and churches and the town's famous old bridge.

We're up early at 6am tomorrow to catch a few buses and try to get to Ecuador but we've all loved Colombia and especially the amazing people here.
