Cactus Day
Various feeds are reminding me it's Trafalgar Day, Back-To-The-Future Day, and the anniversary of Aberfan. For us, it's been Cactus Day.
Yesterday's multiple barrow-loads of hardcore was followed by several more of gravel and grit-laden compost under the guidance of Tim, a cactus specialist we met at the Spring show.
There are now a number of very substantial spiky beasts guarding the front door, with one large Echinocactus grusonii (the blip) in pride of place. De-potting and positioning something weighing several kilograms, covered with long sharp spikes all over, was something I was happy to allow the expert to deal with!
Needs a bit of tidying and finishing off tomorrow, but is looking great already.
