Matchstick men

Went to the national portrait gallery and saw this picture which I thought was quite scary from a distance. When I looked closer and read the piece about the portait it changed my opinion. The painting is a self potrait by lowry. The eyes are rimmed bright red. This denotes the sadness he was feeling at the time as his mother died.

I took more pictures of portraits which I will share over the next few days. I wasn't planning to go in the gallery but as I went by I thought why not.
