Tea Break
Had a lovely Thursday evening with the 'Open Stage' theatre group that I've been blipping about recently as they continue their 20th anniversary celebrations.
Their usual group leader was unable to run the group today, and so an old friend & colleague Clive and I stepped in to help out for the session. We used to run this group years ago so it was a nice 'return visit' to the group's history, and totally fitting given that much of their current celebrations are about remembering where they came from, and how far they've travelled.
Although much of the celebrations have focused on the theatre work the group has done over the years, I thought this blip should represent another very important aspect of the groups activity. The humble tea break.
The social aspect of a group like this can't be taken too lightly. For some of the members it has sometimes been literally the only time in the week that they get out and about for an activity beyond their own residences. So, whilst they may be with the group for 90 minutes, the 20 minute tea break is a valuable process that is often a lifeline to a wider community, to chat, catch up, and share their week.
Plus, you get a cup of tea. And that's reason enough to value the break.
After all, an Englishman without a cuppa, ain't much of an Englishman at all. Churchill said that. Actually he didn't, but I bet he certainly thought it.
