Poppies 3!
We have had a long day today heading to Northumberland to meet up with our friends.
They live very close to the Woodhorn Mining Museum which is where the poppy installation 'Weeping Window' is currently on display. It is almost exactly a year since we went to see the original display at the Tower of London and whilst I agree with PaulaJ that much of the impact of the original is lost due to lack of numbers, it was still good to see this before it is moved to Liverpool at the beginning of next month.
I've chosen this shot as it shows the winding wheel in the background. I think it fits in well with this industrial setting when you think of the working men that were lost.
I've named it poppies 3 as we also went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park last month to see 'The Wave' installation for my 2000th blip.
We then went on to visit Northumberlandia which was landscaped, as a huge reclining woman, as recompense for the disruption caused by the surface Shotton coal mine. Work is still continuing here and watching over the myriad of trucks tooing and froing was as interesting as walking around the 'ladies' curves. In the extras you can see her head.
A splendid day in great company ending up with a late pub lunch. Thank you very much R and I for taking us around the sights.
