Lame Duck?

There was 1600 of these little guys dumped into a local stream today (Bullock Creek) as the Wanaka Annual Rotary Duck Race got underway.
The Boss had 5 entries but not a quacker arrived first. He intends to call for a Vet to check for possible Dodgy Duck practises.

This little guy was 5 hours late as The Boss, Bossess and ME were walking alongside the stream and spotted it this afternoon. The photography was hair (feather) raising for sure as The Boss had his iPhone and had to run ahead to get the shot and had more than one go at this, nearly ending up in the creek himself and this image was cropped from about a tenth of the frame.

Oh and the numbering started at 1000 so this one was really late altho they were all dumped at the same time.

It is a fun event and a major fundraiser for Rotary in our town.  

So did I bark?     Nah it just didn’t smell right.

And what happens to all these plastic fantastic quackers after the race. Well they are all caught in a fence, removed from the creek and spend 12 months in “cold storage” for re-use again the following year, after all there is no such thing as a free duck...Right?

YES All Ducks are carefully hand recycled. We really are a caring lot here.
