Rising on the First Swell
11.0C starting dull with squally showers through the morning then clearing to a bright afternoon with sunny spells. Moderate breeze.
Maeve the Deerhound and I went through to Arbroath before 9am planning to have our walk round the harbour. When we arrived the rain was off and the lock gate to the inner harbour was closed. I decided I would walk round the inner harbour to the lock gate by myself and collect Maeve on the way back so we could both walk round to the boatyard. Just as I got out of the car I noticed Ultimate Predator leave its berth so I walked up by the lifeboat station and caught its turn out of the outer harbour as the skipper made for the opening in the breakwater and the boat was rising on the first swell on the way to the open sea.
As I walked back to the car the rain came on, so instead of taking Maeve for a walk we went shopping for a fresh croissant and a few other bits and bobs. I drove back by the harbour and as I had hoped the shower had passed so we got our walk. We went round the inner harbour and out to the boatyard. Marigold was still on the slipway with Greta's Girl lower down the slipway.
I was glad to see Good Friend back in its usual mooring, after I had seen it dangling by its mooring ropes near the harbour entrance last Saturday. The tiny Defiant I noticed tucked in behind the fence of the boatyard, probably out of the water for winter. There were some fishermen up on the outer harbour wall with their lines cast out into the sea. Maeve and I went back round to the car and went home. My new Parka was very warm and comfortable.
Maeve and I went for a walk after lunch. It was much brighter. Apothecary7 and I had watched a documentary about Mike Oldfield on BBC4 last evening so I had Tubular Bells on the Nano today. I enjoy Viv Stanshall's voice introducing the instruments towards the end of part 1.
Just a 2 mile loop down to the shore road and round the main road and back home.
World Cup rugby union semi final on the telly later this afternoon when it is South Africa v New Zealand.
The F1 in Texas might be affected by the wider radius of the hurricane which has struck Mexico.
