Capa's second law
Capa's first law of photography was "get close". That was in the days before zoom lenses of course. You were the zoom in the days of a leica or a contax, Capa's favoured cameras.
This is a Karl Zeiss Ikonta bellows camera that belonged to my stepfather who died two years ago. I often think of him. He was at best an average amateur photographer who had no concept of composition or any of the creative possibilities that went with his camera. He took some terrific shots of ordinary South London life that are now absolutely fascinating though. But he loved taking pictures and that was all that mattered.
I'm not in a good place at the moment; there is so little time and so much of my life is routine. ButI have ambitions, actually just one: to take pictures that are more evocative. Maybe I just need to remember Capa's second law ...
Of note today:
Dizzle had a great first day of work experience in an MP's office at the House of Commons.
TSM exhausted after her first full day back at work since her operation six and a bit weeks ago.
Chaired the most awful meeting at work. People had no enthusiasm and you can't blame them. It should be called the "carry on to the bitter end then turn out the lights" group because that's what it's about...
