The Sunday Paper
There was a time, well before our present-day torrent of unceasing newsflashes, updates, emails, and Facebooking, when I would quietly absorb my knowledge of the world at our kitchen table each Sunday morning, a cup of tea beside me, and the Sunday Times in hand.
These days, non-news sections of the Sunday paper (such as the magazine, arts & leisure, book review, travel) are delivered on Saturday. This suits me just fine as it allows me an extra day to work my way through this lusciously thick pile.
Though at home I have a digital subscription to the New York Times, which I read each night before I go to sleep, there is something far more satisfying in turning through the printed pages, contentedly browsing through the rich selection of topics in one convenient package. And having disparate stories in close proximity allows me to explore topics I might otherwise never have discovered. This is one of my favorite past times during my NJ/NYC visits.
So now, as I prepare to turn in, I will settle down with some poetry and some poetry reviews by Natasha Trethewey, poet laureate of the USA from 2012-2014. Sweet reading, all!
