Sparrow Hunting
I was out in the front yard with my dog Maggie this afternoon doing a little bird and squirrel watching. All of a sudden, the Sparrows dove in to a large bush across the street and the squirrels ran in to my backyard. After five seconds of silence, this Coopers Hawk dove in the bush across the street.
I ran inside, grabbed the camera, went back out and heard all kinds of commotion in the neighbors bushes. While the hawk was busy trying to find a sparrow, I walked into the middle of the road and waited. He (or she) popped out after a couple of minutes and landed on this railing. I slowed moved about 10 feet to my left so I could it's photo with the bushes as a backdrop (instead of the neighbors house), popped off about 10 pictures, and it took off.
BTW - Last Saturday, a bunch of Northern Cardinals started slamming into my living room picture window one after the other. When I looked outside, a male cardinal had just bounced off the window and was laying on it's side (stunned). While it was trying to get up, a hawk swooped down and carried it off. I assume that this is the same hawk. Although I felt really bad for the cardinal, it was cool to watch the hawk in action (six feet from the other side of the window).
