Periwinkles
“It’s an odd thing, happiness. Some people take happiness from gold. Or black pearls. And some of us, far more fortunate, take their happiness from periwinkles”
From 'The Changeling Sea' by Patricia A. McKillip
Although the extra hour in bed this morning after the clocks went back was welcome, it means of course that the sun now sinks below the horizon even earlier. So there was less time this afternoon than last Sunday to get the leaves cleared up in the garden. Apart from a few remaining roses, the only flowers blooming now are these pretty little periwinkles which were illuminated by the last rays of sunlight - and there are more buds about to open too.
