Kings Lodging

Spent the weekend in Leicester and had time to kill in Peterborough between trains on the way home today. I went into the town to see the cathedral, which is quite magnificent.
Mary Queen of Scots was buried there after being executed at Fotheringhay, although her body was later moved and is now in Westminster Abbey. Catherine of Aragon is buried in the cathedral and Edith Cavell is commemorated there having attended school in the cathedral close.
This doorway is in the Norman gateway leading into the cathedral grounds and although obviously old, is not highlighted at all. I liked the idea of the king lodging in the gatehouse!!
The ghostly figure through the glass, very appropriate for Halloween, is the photographer.... I didn't notice till just now!
