Steelworks Moon
I had a blipday out with Jazzdrummer to the Tees Estuary, we started at Redcar and walked along the beach to South Gare then back via the dunes and steelworks. On to the banks of the Tees, across the Newport Bridge to the Transporter Bridge then finally a walk around Seal Sands. The mix of industry and wild landscape is unsurpassed.
Sadly the Moon rising over the Warrenby site is a poignant, almost ghostly, reminder of the closing down of the steelworks and its massive impact on the economy of the area. The government is prepared to spend far beyond £50 billion on HS2 to take 20 minutes off the journey time from Manchester to London despite independent reviews pointing out how misguided the project is, yet won't step in to save the industry. What a pity none of the North Eastern steelworkers went to Eton or Harrow, perhaps things would have been different otherwise.
Whilst I'm on a rant, crumbs from the rich man's table is NOT an economic policy, just class status quo.
