Curlew

Imaging walking along the path toward your parked car (at work) at night and hearing a "snake like hissing" sound and the immediate reaction is "have I stood on a snake!
That's what I did and it was frightening. Instead I saw two birds (male and female) running towards me and make its "hissing" threat sound. Lucky me,  I had my handy camera and snapped few wild shots. This successful shot is the male. The female is nearby with her 2 chicks.

It nest on hard ground among the tree muches between the parked cars. Just as crazy as the Lapwing Plovers. It stands about 150cm (18in) tall and has a wing span close to a metre in width.
