All Downhill

So I was told this cycle route was all down hill, 35 km, descending from 2000m to not much above sea level. And I suppose that was true, mostly. But this wasn't woohoo- wave -your-arms-in-the-air downhill, this was hold-on-tight downhill.
We took a shuttle bus up to almost the highest point of the route on Mount Tremalzo. This in itself was intimidating as we were accompanied by a group of middle aged men in Lycra whooping it up and raring to go. luckily they headed off in a different direction and we were left in peace. The track was yet another war relic, zig zagging along and down the mountainside with various tunnels and gun stations en route. We started off in mist but soon had glimpses of Lake Garda way off below. We rattled, skidding and bounced our way down with my family kindly waiting for me to catch up on numerous occasions. By the time we got down to the lake my hands had to be prized off the handle bars to release my grip!
Our reward was a stop off for a huge ice cream in Riva del Garda. But then we had to get back on the bikes for the final few km home. ... ouch.
