November Ceremonies
The period from the First Poppy Laying to the completion of the Acts of Remembrance on November 11th are known in the Military as "November Ceremonies".
Whenever I have been able I have placed Poppy Crosses in the Garden of Remembrance for all those I wish to remember but specifically six people;
Private George Richard Roberts of the East Surrey Regiment - Killed In Action Aged 22 on 31-03-1916 at the Battle of Loos.
Sgt Alfred E Stevens of the 1st Royal Tank Regiment who fought from Dunkirk to El Alamein to Italy at Normandy on D Day and on to Germany.
Seaman George A Fry a Merchant Seaman in WWII who sailed on Convoys in the North Atlantic and Arctic.
Private Gustav Knoch of the Free Polish Army who fought at Monte Cassino.
Gunner Charles R Stevens of the 63rd Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery who as a teenager was amongs the first troops to enter Belsen Concentration Camp.
Cpl Phillip LeVesconte of the Royal Corps Of Transport who served successive tours on Op Banner and died too young.
These six I remember especially but I also remember the millions on all sides.
