A dreich day in Scotland

It’s been a dreich day in Scotland with the mountains shrouded in mist and rain all day.

We had lunch with some friends in Perth and on the way back took this photo at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

While in Perth I picked up The Pocket guide to Scottish Words.
So many of them have an onomatopoeic ring and are more descriptive than the English equivalent.

Crabbit- bad-tempered.
clype- teller of tales
blether- talks too much
droukit- soaked, drenched

wifie- older woman
 stooshie, stushie- fuss commotion

 skoosh- squirt, splash
sleekit-  sly, cunning
stookie- plaster cast for broken limb

 scunner, to sicken, disgust
peelie-wally – pale and ill-looking.
 messages –shopping
greetin- person who is always crying, moaning or complaining.
