Downtown (Art Deco) Napier.
Almost entirely flattened by an earthquake in 1931, the city was rebuilt largely in the Art Deco style popular at the time. Today, it and Florida's South Beach are the greatest and best preserved Art Deco towns, with Napier actually being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's also a place clearly loved and looked after by its people, with funky bits of graffiti everywhere you don't necessarily look.
