Such is Life

A sudden breeze shakes the autumn leaves from the trees. I watch as they free fall, twisting and tumbling like yellow ochre and russet confetti onto the grass and pavements.

They gather in heaps against walls and tree roots covering the grass with a golden carpet. They scamper across damp sidewalks before being trampled to a sodden mess by armies of feet, their brightness gone for ever.

It seems no time since these same leaves were young things, a fresh green, delicately fluttering in their newness. Such is the remorseless turn of the seasons and life.
We are no different.........
