Cappadocia, Anatolia
I am in Cappadocia in central Anatolia, with friend-neighbour-colleague Robin for our four day vacation due to Republic Day and the Turkish general election. We are staying at the Courtyard Cave hotel (their website is here) - my room is literally a cave (see extra) from the volcanic ash that is about 8 million years old. Cool. . Geologically, the whole area is unlike anything I have seen before. I must get mbfiatw Jean-the-geographer to come here to see how the volcanic rock was hollowed out and made into homes by the the Hittites 2000-12000b.c. and subsequently occupied by the early Christians who were persecuted by the heathen Romans .....
This afternoon we visited the open air museum Göreme where the views are astonishing (today's pic).
It's a tad chilly.
