Please open by hand

At a university library. On the sliding door that looks an automatic one at a glance was this sign, with the arrow in it pointing the direction where the door opens.

This sign makes me wonder why, coming across doors which look modern, made of transparent glass, we could be easily convinced that they open automatically.
