On their own
Went to the V and A Museum of Childhood in London today to see the exhibition on child migrants to canada, Australia, south africa and new zealand. 100,000 children were sent overseas by religious and charitable organisations to what was felt to be a better life, often without parents knowledge or permission as the children were in some form of state care. Many were told they were orphans and never saw their parents again. Many of them had a dreadful childhood of physical labour and abuse. Its a heartbreaking exhibition.
