Dead and berried

Rose hips around a gravestone inspired this rather obvious pun - but then I noticed that the very stone (extra) that the briar was overhanging marked the death of one Elizabeth Berry in 1813 at the age of 88. That means she was born in 1725 during the reign of George I.
Three stones to the right is another Berry, Charles, who died the same year aged 48. Could they have been mother and son I wondered?  It would have meant Elizabeth giving birth at the age of 48: unusual but not impossible. Dylan Thomas's widow, Caitlin, had a child by her Italian lover at the age of 49.

On the theme of berries, some enormously tall raspberry canes have appeared in the garden from who-knows-where and are still fruiting. I picked a bowlful (second extra) to share with the family tomorrow when they will be making a flying visit to commemorate the birthday of The Old Man who would have been 94 on Saturday. Raspberries were his favourite fruit.
