Before her time

When our daughter came down from university in Manchester in the 1980s, she brought with her several domestic chimney pots that she had bought in a scrapyard. This was long before garden centres were selling them as containers. Her fellow students thought she was mad, but we soon came to appreciate our sooty northern chimney pots in our Surrey garden.
