Getting the hang of it
It was beautiful here today so we spent most of it outside, firstly walking the dogs over the common and then paying Langstone Harbour a visit. There were about 8000 dunlins roosting and flocking around, which was a real sight to behold, and flocks of oyster catchers too. There was also a group of novice windsurfers who gamely spent ages out on the water despite the almost complete absence of wind. Just as we were leaving, three girls on horseback took to the water as well and there was great excitement when one of the horses bucked and threw its rider into the water and then bolted in our general direction. 'Oh no, not again', I thought, as the horse hurtled towards me, reminiscent of the much-aforementioned herd of charging cows over the common earlier this year. Fortunately though someone caught the horse's reins and averted disaster in the nick of time.
In other news, I couldn't help but notice that one of the information boards at the nature reserve has a missing apostrophe. I will now, of course, have to write to the council/RSPB and ask for this to be rectified.
