Moonscape

Do you know what I did today?! I walked on the bottom of a lake without getting wet! Ha! That's one of the weirdest things we have done in a long time.

So. We were going for walkies to the largest of the shallow bird lakes in our area, and, lo and behold, someone had pulled the plug! Literally. All the water, expect for a deep ditch and some smaller pools, was gone, and the seaweed on the bottom had dried up to form a soft, brown carpet. We decided to try and see what happened if we walked out into the lake.

The very first thing was that I found a veritable treasure. The better part of a cinnamon bun, inexplicably. Mum says someone probably dropped it from the bird watching tower under which we were standing. Then we headed out. Mum nearly immediately regretted this, as the amount of swan poo was overwhelming. I managed to roll in it for a couple of seconds, then pictures were taken with haste and we were out of there. The rest was uneventful, with two found geocaches.

(Mum has tried to find out why they do this. Apparently, the remaining water contains lots of pike that eat the grebe eggs, so that the bird species the lake was intended for don't have youngs. The fish will be stunned? and moved downstream. The other thing was all this brown and very uniform seaweed. It turns out it is an invasive species that is less hardy than the natural ones, and will so not make it exposed like that.)
