Life in a Northern Town

Day 149: Commander Lovell

Jim Lovell was in Pontefract today giving a talk. 87 years old, sharp as a tack, funny and a real gentleman. The man has stories. Real stories of bravery, adventure and dedication.

(I am not sure who the gormless woman in the photo is though).

It was wonderful, just a perfect way to spend a Sunday, I loved absolutely every second. Brian Cox was there too - see extras.

He said that when he looked back on the earth from Apollo 8, one of the first three humans (that we know of) who looked back to see the whole planet, he though that whether or not we believe we go to heaven when we die it is certain that we are born into heaven as this is our home.

Gene Cernan will be in Pontefract in April. Already got my ticket.
