Día de los Muertos Alter

Yesterday we shopped for materials and then constructed our Día de los Muertos commemorative alter. We, the long term residents of our condo complex, gathered under the palapa to drink tequila and remember those who have passed. The alter contains remembrances, foods, photos, icons, of family and friends who are no longer with us. While not as elaborate as others I have seen, it was heartfelt in construction and meaning. Neither did we spend the night at a cemetery as so many families do during this holiday, preferring to remember our loved ones in a more convenient less taxing fashion.
