The Schickling Walk
At long long last the sun managed to burn off the mist and fog and the sun shone down with remarkable warmth. So took off for the Schickling walk as it is over open fields and almost all of it in sunshine.
Part of the walk takes one through the Schickling Trust property. Erich Schickling (1924-2012) was an artist best known for his work with glass including several church windows.
Today we found his widow sitting on her Zimmer Frame out on the edge of a field doing some sketches. We have met and talked to Mrs Schickling before but it was over a year ago. No wonder she didn't remember much of that meeting especially given her 90 years. She had an exhibition held in Ottobeuren in March to celebrate the anniversary.
We enjoyed a long chat in the warm sunshine. Lots about her fleeing the Russians from Bohemia as a young girl and her times as a teacher in Ottobeuren. When the chimes on the belltower in the background tolled midday, we said our goodbyes and she headed back home for lunch. Good to see her so fit and positive.
