Letterbox Babies

I left myself just enough time after work to head home, get changed, and go back out to our senior students' prize giving.  In truth I left it so late that I didn't even have time to run through a practice of my speech.

I ended up being even later because when I stopped at the letterbox to pick up my mail, I heard sounds coming from the 'other' letterbox that the starlings have built a nest in.

On inspection I found that all 5 eggs have hatched and all birds (so far) are surviving.  I would say that they are about a day old.  Mum and Dad starling are being run ragged trying to find enough grubs and worms to feed them.  Imagine how hard they'll have to work as they grow bigger!
