Llantwit Major Town Hall

I know I have blipped this grade II listed building on a previous occasion from a different angle, but I think it is very unusual.  It was built in the 15th century by Gilbert de Clare, Lord of Glamorgan. Originally an administrative centre for the manor,  incorporating a courthouse and rent collectors office.  In the 16th century it was refurbished and during the subsequent years, it was a school, a slaughterhouse and a jail whilst the top floor was a venue for church meetings. In the 1830's it was leased to the Oddfellows who used it for plays, concerts and dances. There are steps up on both sides at the front of the building leading to the town crier's platform. There is also a small bell tower which features a bell with the inscription Sancte litute, ora pro nobis  (Saint Illtud, pray for us) St. Illtud was a famous teacher of divinity and founded Britain's earliest learning centre here in Llantwit Major.
