Third Time Lucky
Again, too many photos to choose from, and will have to use another extra... Thankfully, during night, fever went and worst of pains, though frustratingly still without energy.
Beja, the ancient Roman capital, full of beauty, but so much going to ruin...
And then, on the road to Pias, with a stop in Serpa to see if Molhó Bico was open... we have tried twice to return to this restaurant, where we had our first meal in the Alentejo, several years ago, and was the beginning of our decision to move here.
Though I rarely blip food, the extra is a must for the record - this is migas (stale bread soaked in water, then fried in pork fat and lots of garlic) and pork from the local black pigs, fattened on the acorns from the cork oaks. The black stuff is another local speciality: surra burra, bits of pork kidneys, liver and heart in blood - to English ears, disgusting maybe, but actually delicious, and love the way it's all served with oranges - you need Vit C to absorb iron.
Now in a small town, Pias, and hoping we'll actually meet up with future colleagues tomorrow - they also are struggling with ill health...
