Procession of S. Giovanni Battista
It was hard to get in the whole parade so I gave up and got a good close up of one of the crosses instead. In all there were about 8 of these massive crosses being carried down Via San Lorenzo to the cathedral where they were joined by an ark containing the ashes of Saint John the Baptist.
Each cross is being carried by one struggling individual in a harness surrounded by a group of men making sure it doesn't fall over. As you may be able to see, the golden flowers around the edge of the cross are blurred. That's because, as they walk, the flowers spring around and jangle (is that a word?). Very impressive spectacle.
