Confabulated

My personal blip challenge today: use the word confabulated. A little googling came up with Wikipedia's definition of

"Tilting at Windmills."

Connotes an importune, unfounded, and vain effort against confabulated adversaries for a vain goal.

That's a long road for a shortcut.
