Stop

The sound of a gunshot woke me this morning a little before 6. About an hour later I heard a continuous hail of gunfire followed by silence. According to police reports soon published, a man was waving a loaded gun about, threatening to kill himself. A Police SWAT team was sent to the scene and killed him. Seven hours later his body was still lying on the ground.

If it weren't so easy to get a gun in the USA...
And if police in the USA were not so heavily armed...
And if there were better care for people with mental illness...

(Thanks to ArtistAnnie for suggesting the last line, which is better spoken than merely implied. I don't think suicide is always the result of mental illness, but I think, given how many people in the USA are untreated, it's a strong possibility.)
