A really bad habit

I have come out of retirement, just for the day, to do a job in Bristol. I am staying the night with a friend who is an inveterate collector of "things". This is just part of the heap of old Victorian clay tobacco pipes that he dug up whilst excavating his garden pond. Presumably the spot was once a favourite place for the smokers of old to gather and to indulge in their bad habit.
