Lovely but too soon.

This is Christmas Cactus. Zygocactus truncatus from Brazil. It is probably the best known epiphytic cactus. These grow up in trees.

It is popular because it can flower at Christmas. As you can see it is flowering too soon. This is annoying as I am of the generation that likes Christmas in late December and which gets cross when Garden Centres fill up their space with Christmas in September.

In fact this can be made to flower at almost any time in the winter depending on temperature, light, watering and feeding.

So stop moaning Knottman and just enjoy it.
