Embrace

The first time was when he had had some bad news. She gave him a hug and, after a second or two, they both realised what they were doing and awkwardly backed away.

The second time was two years later. This time she was upset and, impulsively, he hugged her. Again there was the uncomfortable moment of awareness but, this time, he tightened the hug and, after a short pause, she reciprocated.
