Another tribute to Captain Scott.

This set of sails is situated halfway across the Cardiff Bay Barrage and is another tribute to Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his ship SS Terra Nova. They left Cardiff on15th June 1910 on their ill fated journey to the South Pole. The sails in the photograph represent the fore sails on the Terra Nova. Even though Scott and his men perished, the ship was returned to service in 1913 as a seal hunting boat and later a supplies boat. In 1943, it hit an iceberg and sank off the coast of Greenland and in August 2012, the remains of the ship were found by accident when a private company was testing out some echo sounding equipment in that area.
